My name is Iman, and I’m from Lucknow, India. This story is from last year when I planned a trip to Nainital, a place known for its beauty and lakes. I always wanted to go there. During summer vacation, I went with two close friends and booked an old hotel near the lake. The hotel had ancient carvings and wooden furniture, giving it a timeless feel.
As soon as we entered, it felt like time had stopped. The hotel owner gave us room number 27, which had a large window facing the lake. The view was magical during the day, but at night, a strange stillness filled the air. On our first night, while we were chatting in the room, we suddenly heard a strange voice from outside, like someone was calling for help near the lake. We looked outside, but there was no one there. My friends thought it was just the wind, but I felt uneasy.
The same voice echoed again, clearer this time, sounding desperate. I woke my friends up, and we peered out the window. In the distance, we saw a shadow moving along the lake, behaving oddly. We decided to ask the hotel owner about it the next morning.
When we did, his face turned serious. He told us room 27 was tied to an old story. Many years ago, a young couple had vanished under mysterious circumstances, and people believed their spirits still lingered near the lake. This revelation sent chills down our spines, but we didn’t want to let it ruin our holiday. We enjoyed our days exploring Nainital.
That night, while I was trying to sleep, I woke up feeling a cold breeze despite all windows being closed. I noticed the curtains moving as if someone was trying to open the window. Then I heard the same mysterious voice again, much closer this time. I approached the window, pulled the curtains aside, and gasped. There stood the young couple, looking directly at me with sad eyes, as if they wanted to say something.
One of them quietly asked, “Why are you here?” Terrified, I turned away but couldn’t stop looking. They slowly walked towards the lake and vanished into the water. I quickly woke my friends, and we tried to leave the room, but the door felt stuck as if held shut by an unseen force. We were scared and started praying. Eventually, the door opened, and we rushed to the hotel owner to tell him what happened.
He advised us to leave that room immediately, explaining that spirits reveal themselves to those curious about their story. We checked out and stayed at another hotel. That night still haunts me, and sometimes I feel those spirits are still wandering near the lake, wanting to share their story.
